HOME VISITING & PARENTING

PROGRAMS

Home visiting programs gives pregnant women and families, particularly those considered at risk, necessary resources and skills to raise children who are physically, socially, and emotionally healthy and ready to learn.

TEXAS HOME VISITING

We help parents by matching them with someone who can answer questions, give advice, and recommend services. This helpful person lives in your community and visits you in your home or another convenient location. We call this person a "Parent Educator."

Depending on your needs, the Certified Parent Educator will talk to you about things like:

  • Taking care of more than one child

  • Learning new ways to keep children happy and healthy

  • Getting children ready for school

  • Understanding how important parents are to their child’s learning and well-being

PROJECT HOPES
HEALTHY OUTCOMES THROUGH PREVENTION & EARLY SUPPORT

Project HOPES is a community-based program started in FY14 providing child abuse and neglect prevention services that target families with children between zero to five years of age. Contracts were created with community organizations in targeted counties that provide a home-visiting program, community coalition, as well as services that promote child welfare, early childhood education, and other family services. The Project HOPES program is intended to address child abuse and neglect prevention by focusing on community collaboration in high-risk counties and by increasing protective factors of families served, thereby reducing the likelihood of abuse.

HEAD START HOME BASED SERVICES

Many children and parents receive Early Head Start and Head Start services right in their own home! Home visitors come once a week and work with parents and their children. Together, the home visitor and parents watch and think about the child. They plan ways to help the child learn using parent-child interactions, daily routines, and household materials. A small group of children, parents, and their home visitors also get together on a monthly basis for group socializations.
